In a move that will help catapult its business, Roar Logistics Inc. has secured a pair of federal licenses that will enable the firm to add customs brokerage services to its vast portfolio.

Roar has officially been granted a corporate customs broker license from a pair of federal agencies, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Services and Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, the Federal Maritime Commission granted Roar a license to operate as a “non-vessel operating common carrier.”

Combined the dual licenses allows the Buffalo-based Roar, a subsidiary of Rich Products Corp., to land more logistical contracts from both U.S. and foreign firms.
“It helps us close the loop,” said Robert Rich III, Roar president. “And, it fits right into our long term strategy.”

It took the firm more than six months to secure both licenses and included a very detailed background check on Roar and its employees.
Rich said securing the licenses clears the way for his firm to hire more workers both at its Buffalo headquarters and its four other offices in Phoenix, Atlanta, Peoria, Ill., and Temecula, Calif. The Buffalo office, located in the Adam’s Mark Hotel office wing, has 35 employees.
New hires are expected in both sales and operations.
Securing the licenses may also prove to be a financial boost for the privately-held Roar, which reported revenues last year of $68 million.
Clearance from the federal government may assist Roar’s business holdings in the ocean-bound freight industry. Ocean freight accounts for 25 percent of Roar’s accounts.

“Globally, it opens so many doors for us,” Rich said. “International growth is a key to our success.”
The licenses further cement Roar as one of the top boutique-style logistics firms. The company handles freight and long distance transportation logistics using air carriers, over-the-road haulers, ocean freighters and rail.

“It really makes us a one-stop shop,” Rich said. “When someone calls, we can now offer a complete, comprehensive solution, regardless of where their freight is headed.”

Rich founded Roar Logistics in 2003 as a global, third party logistics provider.
